Chelsea-Work Log 3

Your Name: Chelsea

Partner’s Name(s): Kathleen & Emily

Day & Date: Thursday Jan 30, 2009

1. Briefly describe what you PERSONALLY accomplished today:

Today I worked on finding good sources for our project. I created a list of the sources that I found to be the most helpful and then I began to start taking notes. I also looked at different ways we could modify our model storm water wetland.

2. Briefly describe what your TEAMMATE(S) accomplished today:

Today, Emily became an expert in the field of wetlands. She researched and took notes about wetlands and found out a lot of good information about them. She also four sources that we will visit many times throughout this project. Kathleen began designing our website so that we could have a clear plan before jumping in to make the website. She figured out all of the things that we are including on our website. She also figured out what day we are going to visit a wetland.

3. Briefly describe how you and your partner(s) ASSISTED each other today?

Today my group and I assisted each other by dividing up the work for today. We also assisted each other by asking questions whenever we needed help.

Website Layout-ing/Organizing

1. Briefly describe what you PERSONALLY accomplished today.

My main focus for the day was to create the main logical layout of our to-be-created website. I essentially mapped out which sections (main links) the website should have, the different pages under those links, and the general content that each page should have. For example, I decided that our website should have a general link titled, "Wetland Info", and under that link there is general information about what wetlands are, then it gives links to different pages that provide more detailed information (types of wetlands, a glossary of different species of animals/plants, etc.) All of this information is organized in an outline that I created on excel. Below is a screenshot of the outline.

I am not completely finished with creating the outline, because I plan on making it more detailed once we begin actually creating the website itself. In addition I plan to continue working on the outline and conceiving a 'concept' or initial design for the website.

2. Briefly describe what your TEAMMATE(S) accomplished today:

Before we even began to work, we as a group created a To-Do list of what each member's goals of the day were going to be and what they are going to work on. Today, both Emily and Chelsea focused on research. Specifically, Emily conducted research on some of the chemistry aspects and mainly general information about wetlands, the different species, and their economical benefits. Chelsea basically researched the benefits of wetlands and the different hazards that threaten them. She also worked on different ideas of trying to modify our model stormwater wetland, which is vital when we edit our proposal.

3. Briefly describe how you and your partner(s) ASSISTED each other today:

From the very beginning we helped each other out, by giving suggestions of what we all should accomplish today and what path we should go on in the future. Through Emily's research she is and will be able to become an "expert" on wetlands and share her knowledge to both Chelsea and I. Chelsea assisted us by coming up with new innovative ideas for changing our model, ideas which we weren't able to think of before. I helped my group members with the direction they were going, and they helped me by giving me suggestions on how to organize our future website.

Emily: 1/30

Your Name: Emily Nuthall

Partner’s Name(s): Kathleen and Chelsea

Day & Date: Jan 30th, 2009

1. Briefly describe what you PERSONALLY accomplished today:

Today I worked on researching the specifics of wetlands. I learned about the four main types of wetlands (bogs, marches, fens, and swamps). I researched their differences, and how each one benefits society. My goal today was to become an expert on wetlands so I will be able to pass all of my knowledge onto my partners.

2. Briefly describe what your TEAMMATE(S) accomplished today:

The first thing we did today was create a "To-Do" list. According to that, today Kathleen worked on laying out our website, and Chelsea worked on finding useful websites, and finding organizations who have goals that are similar to our project.

3. Briefly describe how you and your partner(s) ASSISTED each other today:

Today we displayed our ability to work independently in order to accomplish more. By sitting close together we were still able to bounce new ideas off each other, and run new information by each other.

Chelsea-Work Log 2

Your Name: Chelsea

Partner’s Name(s): Kathleen & Emily

Day & Date: Thursday Jan 29, 2009

1. Briefly describe what you PERSONALLY accomplished today:

Today I helped work on revising my groups proposal. I also helped create the work plan calendar for my group. It maps out the days we plan to works and has important dates like due dates.

2. Briefly describe what your TEAMMATE(S) accomplished today:

Kathleen and Emily worked on revising the proposal and creating the calendar that lists our work days and due dates. They also found websites with information about wetlands and took notes.

3. Briefly describe how you and your partner(s) ASSISTED each other today?

My group and I assisted each other by working together to create a work plan. We created a calendar that maps out from now until April what we are going to do in order to complete our project. We also took some notes about wetlands and began to find sources for information.

Planning, Research, and Proposal

1. Briefly describe what you PERSONALLY accomplished today:

Today I conducted more preliminary research notes for our project with my group mates. I would search for different websites, while my other groupmates would take notes on what we discovered. As a group we had our proposal meeting with our teachers, and during that meeting I took notes about the different suggestions that our teachers had for us, as well as how to move forward with our project. I got the idea to create a calendar for us that details our "building plan", including which weeks/days we work on our website, visit a wetland, calculate our results, etc. I will personally be in charge of creating the website and website template, so I began to think of different ideas and ways to of creating our layout.

2. Briefly describe what your TEAMMATE(S) accomplished today:

As I said above, my group mates and I did research, specifically focusing on the different types of wetlands. Chelsea and I would go online reading out and finding important information while Emily recorded the notes. As a group, we all contributed in creating our calendar, agreeing on which days we can work on the weekend with each other and a somewhat detailed outline of everything that we are going to do until the end of our project.

3. Briefly describe how you and your partner(s) ASSISTED each other today?

As a group we functioned incredibly well and we especially used a lot of team work when we were taking notes. Even during our meeting, we all assisted each other by finishing one another's thoughts and adding to the conversation. During the calendar portion, we aided one another in figuring out the outline of which days we can work on certain things. For example, I wasn't sure how long we should work on each of the components, so I asked my group mates and they gave me a thoughtful opinion. True cooperation...

Ideas are Storming!

1. Briefly describe what you PERSONALLY accomplished today:

I personally contributed a lot of my input, insight and creative thought to creating our proposal. I initially thought of choosing wetlands as our topic of focus, and I also conceived of one of the two main end products that we are going to create. I thought of creating a model stormwater wetland to display on exhibition night. The model demonstrates the function and importance of a wetland, by filtering out pollutants and dirty water before entering any body of water.

There isn’t something that I personally accomplished, because through the cooperation and culmination of thoughts of our group we were able to shape and define our topic and product ideas.

2. Briefly describe what your TEAMMATE(S) accomplished today:

As a team we conceived of our end products. We thought of creating a website as one of our final products, an idea which we all came up with together. Emily contributed her own thoughts about the website by proposing that we include information about the plant and life species and creating informational videos. Chelsea thought of adding somewhat of an interactive flash component to the website, which will give audiences a virtual tour of a San Diego wetland.

As a whole, we thought of an essential question that related to the overarching question of the project. Through this we were able to break down which chemistry sub-subject we will go into.

3. Briefly describe how you and your partner(s) ASSISTED each other today:

EX: How did you learn from each other, teach each other, or help each other?

Today, we generally fed off of each other’s ideas and suggestions. For example I would think of creating a website, and Emily and Chelsea thought of the different aspects we could include in our site. We also all contributed looking into different websites of interest for our project, as well as numerous organizations.
